Most people in my hometown knew about Anne’s Bakery. If you were new to the area, someone was sure to tell you to go to Anne’s for your bread, donuts, pastries and cakes. You could buy your groceries at the A&P, but you had to go across 17th Avenue to Anne’s for everything fresh baked from the oven.
My family was very much a meat, potatoes and bread family at dinnertime. My favorite summertime errand was to ride my bike to Anne’s for fresh baked bread or rolls for dinner. The smell when you walked in the front door was wonderful. Often the morning smell was dominated by the fresh odor of rye bread baking. The smell carried you in the front door and over to the display case of freshly baked loaves. After carefully surveying the loaves, I would make my choice. Anne or her husband, Bill would place the still warm loaf on the breadslicer. I usually asked for the extra thick slices. Expertly, they slipped the sliced bread into a bag for the trip home. Anne would remember to give me an extra dinner roll or pastry for the trip. Bill would try to frown when he saw this happening, but the smile on my face always brought one to his.
My mom was a GREAT cook. No recipes, just a well practiced skill. Even mom deferred to Anne when she needed a cake for a special occasion. It didn’t matter if it was a wedding, a birthday or just visitors from out of town, Anne baked the special cakes and desserts. I can close my eyes and still smell the German Chocolate Cake that was my birthday favorite. Even the highest quality business will occasionally have a service problem. At Anne’s no matter what you were unhappy about, you were met with a smile and the problem was resolved. No questions, no paperwork and no receipt required!
I try to run my business at Priority Mortgage in the similar manner so that we will be worthy of your referrals of your friends, relatives and co-workers. I need your help to locate other businesses like Anne’s that should receive our referrals. We are putting together a Homeowner’s Service Directory to be posted on www.WestMichiganMortgageHelp.com.
We are looking for businesses that you trust. It could be your own business, your employer or a business you use. The business may provide services you need for yourself or your family not just for your home. We need to identify trusted plumbers, painters and landscapers, but we also need auto repair shops, attorneys, specialty stores, restaurants and a bakery just like Anne’s. If you have a business you would like to recommend, please complete the attached information sheet and mail or fax to 616-457-8858. Or just drop me an e-mail at Harry@PriorityMortgageCorp.com with the basic information. We will contact each referred company or individual to sign a service pledge before adding them to the Directory. If you would like a little extra incentive to recommend a company, we will enter everyone who recommends a company into a drawing for prizes.
Thanks,
Harry Gribnitz
