My name is Cubbie. For the last few years my friend Harry has given me the opportunity to tell you about the Home for the Holidays Open House at the Humane Society of Kent County. As a dog that survived a difficult time growing up on the streets of Chicago before being adopted, I feel uniquely qualified to tell you about the experience. After being adopted by Janet, Jim, Cathy and Harry, I always felt surrounded by love and learned what it meant to become a Friend for Life. However rather than focusing on details of my past, I would like to share one thought that is at the heart of the matter As quoted from Roger Caras, president emeritus, ASPCA.
“For me a house or an apartment becomes a home when you add one set of four legs, a happy tail, and that indescribable measure of love we call a dog.”
For the fourth consecutive year, my friends at Priority Mortgage have offered to sponsor the Home for the Holidays Open House on Sunday December 10, 2006 from Noon to 4:00PM at The Humane Society of Kent County facility. I have asked my friends to enclose some information on the event to tell you more of the details.
If you promise not to tell anyone, I would like to tell you a few surprises planned for this year. My old Friend Griff (you might know him as the Griffin’s mascot) just can’t keep a secret. My friends from Priority Mortgage will be holding an “everybody wins” prize drawing. They have a long list of special holiday and sports items to give away. Griff’s buddy Blitz (from the Grand Rapids Rampage Arena Football League Team) said he heard a rumor about “beanie babies”. Griff had so much fun last year; he has been encouraging Blitz to join him this year. I even heard they might bring along one of the Rampage players. I hope it is a quarterback. I love to play fetch with someone who can throw the ball 50 yards.
If you adopt an animal on Sunday, you might even be eligible for a special Gift Certificate from some of Priority Mortgages business partners to get you and your “new best friend for life” off to a great start.
I would like to give a special “Cubbie” tail wag of thanks to Linda, Joy, Sherri (and family), Brenda, Meg and Ron for all they have done to support the event. We would also like to send a “Cubbie bark” to all the volunteers at the Humane Society that make the organization itself possible. In the past year volunteers have contributed over 35,000 hours of service to animals in need of help.
Please remember to tell all your friends, relatives or co-workers that might like to add a “best friend for life” to their family.
Everyone deserves a Home for the Holidays
Love,
Cubbie
PS: Please keep our friend Linda in your thoughts and prayers while she is recovering from surgery. We know she will be with us in spirit on Sunday.
