Harvesting Traditions
Written By: Harry Gribnitz

Traditions help us remember our heritage and history. They are a simple way for one generation to pass beliefs and customs to the younger generation. We talk about a traditional Christmas celebration filled with the activities that make Christmas special to our family. It is the four generations of a family that rise to their feet as the flag passes to start the Memorial Day parade. It is a young engaged couple sending invitation to invite friends and family to join in the celebration of their wedding. It is a young father taking his son to Wrigley Field during the afternoon for his very first Cubs’ game just like his Dad took him years earlier. Dad carefully explaining the tradition of tossing the other team’s (particularly the Cardinals) home run ball back on to the field as the crowd roars its approval. MSU vs. U of M anywhere, anytime, any sport.

Some of our most important traditions of summer come from “Country Folk” on our farms and ranches in the Heartland of American. Please join us at this year’s Kent County Youth Fair to help us celebrate some of the finest Fair traditions. This year FAIR is August 4-9, 2008 at Kent County Fair Grounds in Lowell, MI. We have enclosed a schedule to help you plan to participate in some of your favorite traditional activities. We will not be as active at Fair as we have the last couple of years (you know about the challenges of the mortgage mess), but we’ll be their. It’s tradition!!!!
