FIND A FRIEND FOR LIFE!
Written By: Harry Gribnitz

My name was Digger. I earned my name while living on the street. I was the very best at “digging” through the trash to find my dinner. My Mom did her best to take care of me and teach me how to make my way in the world. I never new my Dad. When my Mom died, hit by a speeding car, I knew it would be tough on my own. I lived in an old crate under the railroad bridge. A couple of people would help me with handouts and table scraps. But last winter was so bitterly cold, I just curled up in my crate hoping to make it through the night. But the very worst part was not having anyone to love or to love me.

A Good Samaritan found me curled up in my box home. I was afraid at first but her calm voice eased my fears. I let her pick me up and take me to The Humane Society. The people at the shelter were so kind and gentle. I knew this was a better place to be. They gave me a bath. The Doctor checked me over. I was given food, water and a warm, clean place to stay and sleep. I even had toys!!! Volunteers came to play with me and take me on a walk. I even became friendly with some of the other animals at the shelter. I loved the volunteers, but something was still missing. I still yearned for more, a family of my own to love.

My new name is Cubbie. I was adopted by a family with a son and daughter. I have a beautiful home with all of my basic needs met. Mom takes me for rides in her truck. Dad lets me sit in his favorite chair. Janet lets me play basketball with her in the driveway, even when I get in her way. Jim saves a special place on his bed for me to sleep each night. Finally, I found a place, surrounded by love, to be a friend for life!

Love,

Cubbie (fka Digger)
