EVERYONE DESERVES A HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Written By: Harry Gribnitz

My name is Cubbie. For the last few years my friends at the Humane Society have given me the opportunity to tell you about the Home for the Holidays Open House. I have told you the story of how I grew up in the streets of Chicago. I had earned my original name, Digger, because I was so good at digging through the trash to find my dinner. I was adopted by a family through the Humane Society so that I could be surrounded by love and become a Friend for Life.

This year as I look down from doggie heaven, I see so many of my animal friends that need your help. The tragedy of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita not only impacted humans but stretched the resources of the Humane Society of Kent County even further than normal. In September, 145 animals were airlifted from Louisiana. The 88 dogs and 57 cats rescued from rooftops or treading water in the flood streets were in need of medical attention, food, water, shelter and love. While some have been returned to their families, many remain in need of a loving home. In addition to supporting the needs of our local community, we are still trying to recover from the aftermath of the hurricanes.

My friends at Priority Mortgage have offered to help. Once again, they are sponsoring the Home for the Holidays Open House on Sunday December 4, 2005 from Noon to 4:00PM at the Kent County Humane Society office. I have asked my friend to enclose some information on the event to tell you more about the details.

If you promise not to tell anyone, I’d like to tell you about a few surprises planned for this year. Priority Mortgage will be giving away a long list of special holiday and sports items. My old friend Griff (you might know him as the Grand Rapids Griffins’ mascot), he just can’t keep a secret. Last year Griff was a special surprise guest at the event. He had some much fun last year that this year he is bring along one of the Griffins players Bryan Helmer. The Griffins and Bryan have been huge supporters of the Humane Society through the Charitable Goals program. Each time Bryan scores a goal or earns an assist on a teammates goal, $100 is contributed to the Humane Society!!!!

I would like to give a special “Cubbie” thank you to Linda, Joy, Becky, Beth, Shari and Erin for all they have done to support the event. If you adopt an animal on Sunday, you might even be eligible for special Gift Certificate from some of Priority Mortgages’ business partners to get your “new best friends life” off to a great start. If you see Griff or Bryan at the Home for the Holidays, please say “Hi” from his old friend Cubbie. But remember you promised not to tell I gave away a few of the surprises.

Everyone deserves to have a Home for the Holidays.

Love,

Cubbie
