A seminar speaker started his presentation by holding up a $20 bill. In the room filled with over 200 people, he asked, “Who would like this $20 bill. Listener’s hands starting going up all around the room. Soon everyone had raised a hand in hope of being the lucky recipient. He continued, “I am going to give this $20 bill to one of you, but first let me do something. He proceeded to crumple the $20 bill in his hand. He asked, “Who still wants it?” Still the hands were up in the air.
Well, he replied, “What if I do this?” He dropped the bill onto the ground and started grind it into the floor with his boot. He picked up the crumpled and dirty bill and once again held it high. “Now, who still wants it?” A roomful of hands greeted his offer.
My friends, maybe we can learn a lesson from the crumpled and dirty bill. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it. Even though it was creased and soiled, you still recognized it had value. It was still worth $20.00.
Many times in our lives, we are crumpled, dropped and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen in your life, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who care about you and love you. The worth in our lives comes not from how we look, not from how we dress and not from who we know. Our worth comes from who we are. You are special. Please don’t ever forget it!
